Good evening and greetings from the French Drawing Room at Anderson House in Washington, DC.
Our ancestors shared a common struggle. They were joined by shared experiences in war and they celebrated together in peace.
Today, our One Society of Friends celebrates the shared purpose that continues to bring us together. We honor the service and sacrifice of our ancestors. We honor their courage, their determination, and their ideals. And we work together to teach the rising generation to honor them as well.
As I speak to you tonight — wearing the Diamond Eagle presented to George Washington by the officers of the French navy— relations between the United States and France are strained over naval affairs.
